New and potentially damaging information about Nunes – What did he know, and when did he know it?
One of the activities Michael Flynn is being investigated for is his previously undisclosed work for Turkish government while a member of the Trump campaign, and later as a key member of the the transition team with Devin Nunes. Flynn was paid over $500,000 by groups linked to Turkey’s government, reports show.
What has been overlooked for months was that Representative Nunes, Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, appears to have accompanied Flynn on at least one of his meetings with Turkish officials during the transition.
Former Donald Trump campaign adviser and Ex-CIA Director, James Woolsey publicly revealed that he had attended a meeting between Michael Flynn and the Turkish government. Woolsey says the Flynn-Turkey meeting he attended, in which the kidnapping of Pennsylvania resident Fethullah Gülen was discussed, took place in the summer of 2016.
But after Donald Trump was named the winner of the election, late in the transition team period, Flynn met with the Turkish government again. James Woolsey had already resigned two weeks earlier, so instead Flynn took another Trump transition team member with him, Devin Nunes.
Just days before Trump’s inauguration, an article in the Daily Sabah, an English language pro-government newspaper often called a propaganda arm of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, reported that:
“[Turkish] Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu met with designated U.S. National Security adviser Rt. Gen. Mike Flynn on Wednesday at Trump Hotel in Washington . . . House Intelligence Committee Congressman Devin Nunes, a Republican heavyweight, also attended the breakfast”
James Woolsey claims that Michael Flynn offered to put him on his consulting payroll during their meeting with Turkey. Woolsey said he declined that offer. source: Wall Street Journal
This newly revealed information about Flynn and Nunes having also met with Turkish officials raises a number of new questions.
- Exactly what was the nature of the relationship between Flynn and Nunes, and did Flynn also offer money to Nunes as he did with Woolsey?
- And as far as the information that Nunes said he recently received (the information that he felt compelled to share with the White House first, before sharing it with his own committee) . . . did Nunes see his own name in the classified eavesdropping intel that was fed to him?”
- If Flynn has already secured his deal with the FBI against Trump and his team, what will Flynn reveal about the involvement of Devin Nunes with the Turkish government?
This last question could help explain Nunes’ odd behavior this past week. Nunes seems to be trying to help make this Trump scandal go away, but he is not doing a very good job of it.
At this point just a lot of questions and speculation, with new drips and drabs coming out each day.
